What is a Blind Count? How to create a blind count task?

A blind count is a physical inventory technique where items are counted without knowledge of the expected quantities. This method reduces bias, ensuring that the counting process is impartial and discrepancies can be easily identified. Blind counts are especially useful for improving inventory accuracy by removing preconceptions about stock levels.

Ventory’s Blind Count feature enables users to perform an unbiased count of their field or remote inventory. By not displaying expected quantities, the feature helps users spot discrepancies and improve overall accuracy in their inventory management.

Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to create a Blind Count task for a user:

Step 1 : Navigate to “Tasks” > Click on the three dots in the top right corner and select "New" to create a new task.

Step 2: Go to the Task Type dropdown, select "Blind Count," and then click "Next.”

Step 3 : In the Stock Location dropdown, select the stock location where you want to perform the blind count.

Step 4: If you have any, enter an External Reference, then click "Next."

Note: External Reference is a text field where you can write notes, instructions, or any information about your locations, users, specific directions, products, or the task itself.

Step 5 : Select the Bins where the user will be performing the Blind Count task.

Step 6: Check the box if you want to validate the quantity of non-serialized products; otherwise, leave it blank. Then, click "Next.”

This field determines what the user see on their mobile application when doing the blind count of a non-serialized item. If unchecked, the initial quantity is set to the expected quantity and if checked, the initial quantity is always zero.

Step 7 : Select the “Users” you want to assign this task to. This user will be responsible for executing the Blind Count task. Click on “Next”

Step 8: If you want the Blind Count to be completed by the Assigned User within a certain period. Set the Due Date. This field is not mandatory. Go to “Next”

Step 9: Select the additional users that should receive a report of the Blind Count task once completed. Go to “Finish”

Step 10: A Blind Count task will be successfully created. Navigate to your task and click on it to see all the information of the Blind Count.
